Monetary Policy and Trade Balance in Nigeria

August 25, 2021 0
Monetary Policy and Trade Balance in Nigeria

Nigeria apex bank Central Bank of Nigeria CBN has continued to battle with the job of reviving the ailing economy and putting it on the path of growth. The economy has witnessed unprecedented job loss, rising poverty level, accelerating inflation, sluggish economic growth and disequilibrium in the balance of trade. The study therefore examine the effect of monetary policy on trade balance in Nigeria. Specifically the study ascertained the extent to which inflation, demand deposit, liquidity ratio, exchange rate and interest rate have influenced trade balance in Nigeria using an econometric regression model of the Ordinary Least Square OLS . From the result of the OLS, it is observed that monetary policy rate, demand deposit, liquidity ratio and exchange rate have a significant positive impact on foreign trade in Nigeria. This means that increases in monetary policy rate, demand deposit, liquidity ratio and exchange rate, will lead to increase in foreign trade in Nigeria. On the other, inflation rate and interest rate has a significant negative impact on foreign trade in Nigeria, meaning that as inflation rate and interest rate increases, will be bring about a decline in foreign trade in Nigeria. Based on the findings of this study, the study recommends that the government should employ a contractionary monetary policy to fight inflation by reducing the money supply in the country through decreased bond price. inflation, demand deposit, liquidity ratio, exchange rate and interest rate have influenced trade balance in Nigeria. The government should intervene in the foreign exchange market in order to build reserves for themselves or provide them to the bank to help stabilize the exchange rate. The government should strive to improve trade performance in the short and long run. They should also reduce government spending and tax capital inflow.

Exchange Rate and Trade Balance Nexus

August 25, 2021 0
Exchange Rate and Trade Balance Nexus

Extant literature revealed that international trade plays a key role to address the economic phenomena and can help to earn foreign exchange. Despite the accruable benefits from international trade and the countrys huge oil export that account for about 90 of its foreign exchange earnings, Nigerias trade balance and exchange rate remain unfavourable. The persistent rise in Nigerias exchange rate and unfavourable trade balance in recent time warrants an empirical probe. This study therefore examines the effect of exchange rate, domestic income, foreign income, consumption expenditure, money supply and interest rate on trade balance using a secondary time series data covering a period of thirty years from 1991 2020. The study employed a regression technique of the Ordinary Least Square OLS . All data used were secondary data obtained from the statistical bulletin of Central Bank of Nigeria CBN and National Bureau of Statistics NBS annual publications. After determining stationarity of the study variables using the ADF Statistic, it was discovered that the variables were all integrated at level, first and second difference, and found out to be stationary at their first difference. The study also using Johansen Cointegration Test, found that there is a long run relationship between the variables. Hence, the implication of this result is that there is a long run relationship between trade balance and other variables used in the model. From the result of the OLS, it is observed that exchange rate, domestic income, foreign income and money supply have a positive and significant impact on trade balance in Nigeria. The study recommends that the government should fixed or peg on the exchange rate through the central bank. This will enable the government to buy and sell its own currency against the currency to which it is pegged. The government should strive to reduce inflation to make exports more competitive. The government should also enhance supply side policies to increase long term competitiveness.

Corporate Governance in Local Governments of the Public Sector for Sustainable Development An Integrated Review

Corporate governance in the public sector, particularly, in local governments is crucial to quality service delivery, citizen participation and sustainable development. Using Integrative Review approach, the study sought to review literature on corporate governance in local governments of the public sector. The results, according to the frame of the study based on selected literature revealed that most studies focused on one rather than two or more countries, there appeared to be less quantitative studies than qualitative studies, there seemed to be more reviews on the subject than empirical studies. The study confirms that public sector corporate governance as a concept is receiving some attention in both practice and literature.

A Study on Stock Market Volatility Pattern of BSE and NSE in India

Stock market volatility refers to the continuous change in the stock prices. This paper examines the relationship between the volatility clustering, level of volatility for the Indian Stock Markets viz. National Stock Exchange NSE and Bombay Stock Exchange BSE for the financial year 2015 16 to 2019 20. The GARCH model is applied to check for the volatility clustering, it is found that there is presence of clustering for the stock exchange indices, as well as for the sectoral indices. Thus, it is found that though both the Stock Exchanges follow the same trend of volatility, BSE indices are more volatile than NSE indices, and any investor investing through BSE listing is exposed to more Risk. Overall, in the study, comparison is being made at every step among the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange.

An Overview of Patient Satisfaction and Perceived Care of Quality

June 17, 2020 0
An Overview of Patient Satisfaction and Perceived Care of Quality
This paper aims to audit the patient satisfaction literature, precisely survey methods used, which fundamentally analyses its hypothesis and use at that point to introduce proof for perceived service quality as a discrete and further advanced construct. Findings Patient satisfaction has been widely reviewed and significant efforts have gone into creating survey instruments to estimate it. Although, most surveys have been critical of its utilization, since there is seldomly any hypothetical or calculated development of the patient satisfaction theory. The construct has little normalization, low accuracy and undetermined validity. It keeps on being utilized interchangeably with, and as an intermediary for, perceived health service quality, which is a conceptually extraordinary and predominant construct. Practical Implications The persistent utilization of patient satisfaction to assess the patients perception of the quality of a healthcare service is truly flawed. The way to settling this dilemma might be for the healthcare division to concentrate on perceived healthcare service quality by considering the particular theories and models that can be found in the administrations advertising literature. This literature offers further developed consumer theories which are preferred differentiated and tried over existing healthcare satisfaction models. Conclusion This paper brings up that there is a critical requirement for differentiation and normalization of patient satisfaction and healthcare service quality definitions and constructs, and argues for examination to concentrate on estimating perceived healthcare service quality.
