A Comparative Study of Leadership Behaviour and Organisational Commitment

July 02, 2021 0
A Comparative Study of Leadership Behaviour and Organisational Commitment

Research in the field of Organisational Behaviour OB is always looking for ways to improve effectiveness and performance. A particularly interesting and popular concept leading to higher levels of performance is workers’ organisational commitment OC . Managers are eager to stimulate OC, yet the question of how remains. It is in this perspective that the present research assumes importance and hence the study has been initiated. In the Indian context, the studies on transformational leadership are few and far between. Whatever little research has taken place mostly encompasses manufacturing or IT sector. This study seeks to find answers to three major issues. The first issue is to explore whether the Indian bankers at different hierarchical levels have aligned their leadership style to the changing demands of the contemporary environment or not i.e. to examine the degree of their transformational leadership behaviour. The relationship between transformational leadership, need satisfaction and organisational commitment has not been explored in the context of Indian commercial banking sector earlier. Second issue, therefore, is to study the impact of the transformational leadership behaviour of the managers on the satisfaction of three higher order needs Esteem Needs, Actualization Needs, Knowledge Needs , and on three dimensions of employees organisational commitment Affective Commitment, Continuance Commitment, and Normative Commitment . It is a well known fact that differences of varied nature exist between public sector banks and private sector banks. Such differences are likely to have different implications for the nature of leadership behaviour, satisfaction of various needs of the managers and their organisational Commitment. The third issue relates to understanding the impact of the employment sector on leadership behaviour, need satisfaction and organisational commitment.

Family Motivation, Ethical Leadership and Family Supportive Supervisor Behaviours A Review of Integrated Literature

April 12, 2021 0
Family Motivation, Ethical Leadership and Family Supportive Supervisor Behaviours A Review of Integrated Literature

The researchers wanted to identify if there is any link between ethics in leadership and family motivation as well as family supportive supervisor behaviours and family motivation. The specific objectives of the study were 1 to examine effects of family motivation on job performance, 2 to analyse effects of ethical leadership on family motivation and 3 to analyse effects of family supportive supervisor behaviour on family motivation. A narrative approach was used to answer the research objectives in the study. Research findings reflected that family motivation is linked to the performance of workers. Employees who have families that they are looking after are more motivated to expand their effort at work than employees who do not have families to look after. Findings also reflected that ethical leadership is an important concept in ensuring a family motivated worker. As such, ethical leadership have a direct impact on family motivation. Finally, the study revealed that family supportive supervisor behavior has an effect on family motivation. Family supportive supervisor behaviour ensures effectiveness and success of an organisation. Based on these findings, the researchers concluded that employers must take advantage of the family motivation model to ensure the success of their corporations. Employers need to recognize the importance of employees’ families, and should channel resources that motivates their workers of fulfilling their dreams of looking after their families. Employers are encouraged to be ethically motivated to ensure they fulfill the family motivation. Finally, leaders, by nature are encouraged to adopt the family supportive supervisor mode in their day to day duties. This will help to balance the work family challenges.

Macro Environment and Organisational Structure A Review

Macro Environment and Organisational Structure A Review

This piece of work theoretically or descriptively considered the impact of the external environment on the structure of organizations. The key variables being organizational structure the dependent variable and the external environment of the organization as the independent variable . Dimensions of organizational structure adopted were centralization, formalization, standardization, specialization and configuration while the measures of external environment applied were level of uncertainty or changeability, intolerance or xenophobia and complexity. The theoretical foundation was hinged on social identity theory and contingency theory. Meaning, types and factors affecting organizational structure were considered alongside environmental factors. It was observed that the external environment has great impact on the organization and is largely responsible for the dynamic nature of the business world. It was therefore recommended that an adequate environmental scanning be carried out to ascertain the stability or otherwise of the environment to be able to know which structural type to adopt at every point in time.

Job Stress Management Practices among Employees in Bpo Sector

June 12, 2020 0
Job Stress Management Practices among Employees in Bpo Sector

Stress is a part of day to day living of every individual. The students may experience stress in meeting the academic demands, people on the job and business men may suffer stress to reach office in time and to complete the projects on time and even the house hold ladies may experience stress in managing the home affairs and to look for the maid servant. The reasons for the stress differ from person to person. The stress people experience should not be necessarily treated as harmful. An optimum amount of stress can always act as an energizer or motivator and propel people to apply the efforts and complete the work. But a high level of stress can be serious threat to the personality trails of the individual and can cause physiological and social problems. A very pedestrian definition of stress goes something like this ""stress is feeling bad due to troubles beyond our control."" This includes the only two ideas about stress that are almost universal, that stress is Unpleasant and that it is something that happens. Stress has been defined as the arousal of the mind and body in response to demands made on them. When stressed, the body single mindedly prepares for battle. The adrenal gland speeds up the secretion of adrenaline and the body closes down the 'unnecessary' functions of digestion, tissue repair, and immune system work. There is no single level of stress that is optimal for all people and they are all individual creatures with unique requirements. As such, what is distressing to one may be a joy to another. And even when they agree that a particular event is distressing, people are likely to differ in physiological and psychological responses to it.
