Features of Morphometric Characteristic of Craniofascial Area of Children with Congenital Cleft Lip and Palate
For the effective comprehensive treatment of children with congenital cleft lip and palate CCLP , it is necessary to periodically study the dynamics of growth of mandible segments. The development and growth of the nasal and maxillary complex in patients with CCLP is a widely discussed topic in any surgical procedure. The study of the growth, development and condition of the childs facial skeleton can be a theoretical and methodological basis for the development and improvement of anthropometric methods of diagnosis and reconstruction in medicine, the substantiation of new principles for the prevention and treatment of dental abnormalities. Accounting for facial proportions is important in surgical, orthodontic dentistry. In this regard, specialists in surgical dentistry are interested in measuring individual facial dimensions.

Interdisciplinary Interaction Issues in Orthodontics

March 12, 2021 0
Interdisciplinary Interaction Issues in Orthodontics

In modern conditions of dental practice, the interdisciplinary interaction issue is extremely urgent and acute. The high level of training and literacy of narrow specialists allows dentists to look broadly at the whole spectrum of dental problems. The global development of modern dentistry requires specialized specialists to join forces to achieve new high goals, change priorities and expand their views. And all our efforts pursue one goal to do the best that is in our power for the patient. The world famous luminaries of modern orthodontics, such as Prof. William R. Proffit, Prof. Vincent G. Kokich, Prof. Charles J. Burston and others recognize the importance and devote particular attention to this issue in their writings. In 21st century medicine, when an orthodontist offers the best treatment and the best care to his patient, the specialists involvement from related fields in the oral rehabilitation process is the best indicator of our patient care.

"Methods for the Study of Digestion in the Oral Cavity"- The use of Multimedia Technologies in the Study of the Topic

The use of alternative methods in the study of the physiology of the digestive system in the modern education system, information and pedagogical teaching technologies plays a rather large role. Increasingly, multimedia technologies are being used in training, which enrich the learning process and make it more effective by involving most of the sensory components of the student in the process of perceiving educational information. Multimedia technologies make it possible to programmatically combine text, graphic, and animated slides with the simulation results of the processes under study.

Effectiveness of Online Teaching in Covid Lockdown Dental Students Viewpoint

The dreadful COVID 19 has seriously affected the education system globally. New technology of learning through online has become a substitute to solve this situation partly. The present study has been done to analyse the perceptions of dental students who pursued their course through online teaching. 76 students 61 girls, 15 boys of age 17 20 years, participated in the study. After taking informed consent, a self administered questionnaire was circulated by google forms. The results were represented graphically. Majority of the students expressed the need for a crash course revision in a traditional method. They opined that the online teaching made them difficult to understand the concepts. Many felt physically isolated and were not satisfied with the online teaching. Most of the students replied that teachers’ feedback and availability helped to clarify their doubts. Only few students agreed for a blended learning approach post COVID. It can be concluded that most of the students were inclined to the traditional classroom teaching when compared to online teaching.

Orthodontic Management of a Maxillary Midline Diastema using Beggs Mechanics Case Report

Maxillary midline diastema with high frenum attachment has negative impact on aesthetics and function. The purpose of this article is to describe a case report of young female with a large midline diastema and torsi version of central incisors treated with orthodontic approach. CASE DESCRIPTION After orthodontic diagnosis, treatment undertaken was the surgical removal of the high frenum attachment in maxillary arch. Then, orthodontic Beggs brackets were bonded on maxillary anterior region and the diastema closed by using E chain along with upright springs. After complete diastema closure orthodontic treatment was discontinued. Then, permanent retainer was bonded on palatal aspect of maxillary anterior region. This technique of using round wire to close diastema using up righting springs has less inventory and reduces relapse.Clinical Relevance Managing midline diastema with this simplified Beggs mechanotherapy is an effective tool to assure good results.

A Comparative Evaluation of Antegonial Notch Depth, Symphysis Morphology, Ramus and Mandibular Morphology in Different Growth Patterns in Angle's Class I Malocclusion

Introduction Growth and development has always remained the topic of interest for various researchers as it has a direct effect on the orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. A reliable method for growth prediction would be a key asset to the orthodontist. The depth of antegonial notch and mandibular morphology are important indicators of growth pattern. Materials and methods The sample included 80 lateral cephalograms with Angle's class I malocclusion ANB=2-4°, aged 18 30 years. The adults were categorized as average growers GO GN to SN = 28-34° , horizontal growers GO GN to SN = 28° and vertical growers GO GN to SN = 34° . The antegonial notch depth, symphysis height, symphysis depth, ratio height of symphysis depth of symphysis , angulation of symphysis, inclination of symphysis, ramus height, ramus width, mandibular and body length were assessed. To evaluate statistical significance for each parameter amongst all the three groups, one way ANOVA test was applied. Results A comparative evaluation revealed statistically significant difference with antegonial notch depth, symphysis height, symphysis depth, ratio height of symphysis depth of symphysis , angulation of symphysis, inclination of symphysis, ramus height and ramus width. Conclusion Antegonial notch depth is greater in the vertical growers as compared to horizontal and average growers. Symphysis morphology in horizontal growth pattern is associated with short height, large depth, small ratio height depth , and larger angle. Conversely, symphysis with a larger height, smaller depth, larger ratio, and a smaller angle is found in vertical growers. Ramus height and width is greater in horizontal growers as compared to the vertical growers.

Periodontal Disease with Diabetes or Diabetes Kidney Disease

December 17, 2018 0
Periodontal Disease with Diabetes or Diabetes Kidney Disease
diseases such as diabetes and atherosclerosis, cardiovascular diseases, and even chronic kidney disease CKD through low-grade systemic inflammation, although no causality can be drawn. CKD is an increasing problem worldwide, and has adverse effects on oral health. The main risk factors of CKD are diabetes mellitus DM , hypertension and obesity. Diabetic nephropathy is the main reason for entering dialysis in Finland and cardiovascular diseases CVD play a crucial role in mortality among CKD patients. The hypotheses were that diabetic nephropathy patients have worse oral health than other CKD patients, at both predialysis and post-transplantation stages, and that salivary MMP-8 associates with worse oral inflammatory burden. The mortality rate was assumed to be higher among diabetic nephropathy patients. The main expected reason for death was cardiovascular disease.

Human Dental Pulp Stem Cells :- A Prospective Regenerative Therapy

September 28, 2018 0
Human Dental Pulp Stem Cells :- A Prospective Regenerative Therapy

Stem cells are the pluripotent cells that possess the potential to differentiate into a variety of cells of the human body. The knowledge of stem cell is enhancing not only in the medical field but equally in the dental field too. The stem cells of the dental origin provide remedies to many cell-based therapies in the regenerative medicine.

Dental pulp stem cells DPSCs possess the mesenchymal stem cells phenotype and therefore get differentiated into neuron, chondrocytes, cardiomyocytes. The demand of cry preserving human exfoliated deciduous teeth SHED cells or the DPSCs are gaining popularity, in a similar fashion of the umbilical cord blood storage. The dental pulp stem cells are the adult multipotent cells that thrive in the cell abundant zone of the dental pulp.

Accordingly, this multipotent characteristic makes the DPSCs an apt model to be incorporated in both dental and medical applications respectively. Therefore, this review which has been executed by both the electronic and hand-searching tools provides an outline of the applications of the dental pulp stem cells in the treatment of various medical disorders, nevertheless other aspects like the long-term clinical trials and studies needs more investigation to ascertain their efficacy.

Oral Cavity Considerations for the Patient with Renal Disease

September 13, 2018 0
Oral Cavity Considerations for the Patient with Renal Disease

Chronic renal disease CRD is the renal disease that manifests oral consequences most frequently, and it is defined as a progressive and irreversible decline in renal function associated with a reduced glomerular filtration rate GFR . The most frequent causes of CRD are diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension and glomerulonephritis.

CRD is classified in 5 stages - from kidney damage with normal or increased GFR to renal failure. The importance of CRD for the dental practitioner lies in the fact that an increasing number of patients with this disease will probably demand dental treatment and that up to 90 of them will show oral signs and symptoms related to this systemic disease.

Dental management must be adapted to these patients' special conditions, as a greater bleeding tendency, hypertension, anaemia, drug intolerance, increased susceptibility to infections and the presence of several oral manifestations associated with either the disease or its treatment.

Good dental health isn't just about preventing cavities and keeping your gums healthy. Both tooth decay and gum disease can lead to infections that can cause problems for people with kidney disease

Dental Anxiety and the Paradox of Gender

September 13, 2016 0
Dental Anxiety and the Paradox of Gender
Objectives: Dental anxiety has been considered as one of the several important obstacles for the patients of dental problems to seek timely treatment from dentists. Applying dental anxiety scales several researchers all over the world have found that the dental anxiety is almost universally more among women compared to men except a few cases. This paper therefore aims to critically reflect upon the dental anxiety research findings, in the light of feminist psychological perspective to comprehend the gender dimension of anxiety phenomenon. Methods: The paper reviews several research papers published in various journals.Findings: The findings of the dental anxiety research poses problem to feminists' point of view on gendered anxiety, as generic psychological difference between the genders is not valid. Hence one doubts the reliability of these findings and validity of the dental scales. However, if the association between dental anxiety and gender is genuine it calls for an explanation for this universal phenomenon of gender dental anxiety. If the anxiety is gendered then the question is whether gender is socially constructed or biologically determined?
