Chairside Diagnosis of Periodontal Diseases A Review

April 14, 2021 0
Chairside Diagnosis of Periodontal Diseases A Review

A good clinical diagnosis has always been the need of the hour. Proper diagnosis is essential for better treatment and planning of the diseases. Customary clinical estimations utilized for periodontal finding are regularly of restricted convenience as they are pointers of past periodontal illness instead of present disease action. Subsequently, there is a requirement for creating novel demonstrative kits that can identify dynamic diseases, anticipate future illness crisis or movement and assess reaction to periodontal treatment, and treatment encouragement in periodontal patients. In this futuristic era, there has been a tremendous amount of research in the field of diagnostic tools that can be utilized by a dental practitioners and even periodontists in their day to day practice. Distinctive chair side diagnostic kits will be discussed in this paper which will be useful for appropriate diagnosis, assessing the disease anticipation and proper treatment planning.

Effect of Different Drying Methods on Chemical Composition of Unripe Plantain Flour

April 02, 2021 0
Effect of Different Drying Methods on Chemical Composition of Unripe Plantain Flour

Food processing is often thought to bring about changes in nutrients content, thus decreasing its patronage. To investigate this in a Nigerian staple, unripe plantain Musa paradisiaca flours were prepared following sun drying and oven drying methods. These were compared against fresh plantain for their nutritional composition. Proximate composition and minerals contents were determined using standard AOAC methods. The results showed that the unripe plantains pulp contained 59.77 , 1.42 , 1.51 , 1.40 , 7.65 , 28.23 , 40.22 and 38.80 of moisture, ash, fat oils, crude fibre, crude protein, carbohydrates, dry matter and organic matter respectively. Calcium, sodium, potassium, iron, and nitrogen were determined to be 0.1534 ppm, 0.2613 ppm, 0.3034 ppm, 0.7808 ppm and 0.2240 ppm respectively. The processing methods produced flour with similar nutritional composition. However, oven drying gave the lowest moisture content in the flour, suggesting a higher capacity to prevent microbial growth and decay in the dried sample, hence prolonging storage life.

A Critical Appraisal on Shleepada in Ayurveda

Shleepada is Kapha Pradhana Tridoshaja Vyadhi which manifests by vitiating Mamsa, Kapha and Rakta and it leads to abnormal enlargement of different body parts. Dusta Jala is considered to be one of the prime causes of Shleepada which manifests with the symptoms of fever, painful swelling starting from groin and extending to the feet. It is classified into three types as Vataja, Pittaja and Kaphaja. Some Acharyas opine that Shleepada manifests to the other body parts like hands, ears, eyes, penis, lips and nose. Ayurveda though provides therapeutic measures for disease, it emphasis more on maintenance and promotion of health. The present article reviews the concept of Shleepada enunciated in Samhitas.

December 06, 2019 0
Accessibility and Physicochemical Properties of Water for Domestic Purposes in Lafia Metropolis
Water is a precious resource which is essential for life and is ranked next to air as a basic necessity of man. However, one major challenge in Nigeria is the ability for both rural and urban areas to access a clean water supply. This study examined the access and physicochemical properties of water used in lafia metropolis for domestic purposes. This study adopted both the use of questionnaires and collection of water samples for laboratory analysis. The parameters tested include Temperature °C , pH value, Electrical conductivity µs , Total suspended solids mg l , Biological Oxygen demand BOD ,Turbidity NTU , Sulphate So4 , Chloride Cl , Nitrate No3 , Potassium K , Sodium Na , Calcium Ca , Magnesium Mg , Zinc Zn , Iron Fe Copper Cu and Lead Pb . The results showed that households in Lafia metropolis have reasonable access to safe water supply and the results of analyses of water samples were compared with the WHO minimum quality standards. The analyses revealed that the quality of water supply is adequate. For instance, electrical conductivity, total suspended solids, biological oxygen demand, sulphate, nitrate, and chloride values were all below the WHO values.

Oral Administration of Pulverized Wood Charcoal on Growth, Feed Utilization, Survival and Waste Excretion of Red Tilapia Oreochromis Sp

May 08, 2019 0
Oral Administration of Pulverized Wood Charcoal on Growth, Feed Utilization, Survival and Waste Excretion of Red Tilapia Oreochromis Sp

A 35 day feeding experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of pulverized wood charcoal PWC on the growth, feed utilization, survival and waste excretion of red tilapia Oreochromis sp. . Ninety red tilapias with an initial weight of 7.32 ± 1.31 g were acclimatized and randomly introduced into 9 aquaria in 3 groups with 10 fish per aquarium. Different levels of PWC 0 T0 , 1 T1 , and 2 T2 were incorporated in the diets of red tilapia for four weeks. After the experiment, average body weight ABW , specific growth rate SGR , relative growth rate RGR weight gain WG , feed conversion ratio FCR and survival rate SR of the experimental fish were computed. No significant differences were observed on feed utilization, survival, and waste excretion of the fish. Furthermore, ABW and WG of the experimental fish did not show any significant difference, however, significantly higher P 0.05 SGR and RGR were observed from T1 compared to the other treatments. Consequently, this study showed that supplementation of 1 PWC in the diet is the most suitable in improving the growth performance of red tilapia.

HIV AIDS and the Reflection of Sexual Invisibility in the Elderly in Brazil

March 28, 2019 0
HIV AIDS and the Reflection of Sexual Invisibility in the Elderly in Brazil
To evaluate similar reports of HIV AIDS and AIDS deaths in Brazil by age, focusing on the geriatric group. Descriptive epidemiological study based on public databases and statistical analyses of HIV reports between 2007 2016 and cases of AIDS and AIDS deaths between 1980 2016, divided by age and sex. Of the 164,535 HIV cases reported between 2007 2016, 3.13 were elderly. Regarding AIDS cases between 1980 2004 and 2005 2016, there was an increase of 109.12 in the elderly and 208.44 in the elderly, associated with the rise in deaths in these groups. Comparing the numbers of AIDS and HIV cases from 2007 2016, there was an increase in the HIV AIDS relationship with the advancing age. Strategies are needed that provide a decline in the number of elderly people with HIV, through investment in prevention, multidisciplinary team and public policies.

Mechanical Low Backache

October 29, 2018 0
Mechanical Low Backache

Back pain is one of the most common patient complaints brought forth to physicians. Mechanical back pain accounts for 97 of cases, arising from spinal structures such as bone, ligaments, discs, joints, nerves, and meninges. Acute back pain in the absence of progressive neurologic deficits and other underlying non mechanical causes may be treated conservatively, with specific emphasis on maintaining activity levels and function.

Mechanical back pain persisting for more than 4 to 6 weeks may warrant further diagnostic testing and imaging. Common causes of mechanical back pain include spinal stenosis, herniated discs, zygapophysial joint pain, discogenic pain, vertebral fractures, sacroiliac joint pain, and myofascial pain. A wide variety of treatments are available, with different treatments specifically targeted toward different causes. A balanced approach, which takes into account patient psychosocial factors and incorporates multidisciplinary care, increases the likelihood of success from back pain interventions.

The majority of people will experience mechanical low-back pain sometime in their lives. Mechanical low-back pain can be defined as pain resulting from excessive or prolonged posture issues, such as too much sitting or standing. Pain can also be caused from overuse or muscle strain, or it could be pain secondary to injury or deformity relating to the spinal structures, such as bone, ligaments, discs, joints, nerves, and meninges.

Mechanical back pain persisting for more than 4 to 6 weeks may require diagnostic testing and imaging. Nonetheless, treatments are available, including physical therapy, with different programs specifically targeted toward different causes.

Genetic Divergence Studies in Black Gram (Vigna Mungo (L.) Hepper)
The experiment was conducted during 2017-2018 to estimate the genetic divergence, using 120 black gram genotypes for nine quantitative characters. Among the nineteen clusters, cluster I had maximum number of genotypes (62) followed by the cluster III (16 genotypes), cluster XIV (11 genotypes), cluster (9 genotypes). Clusters XV and XVII (4 genotypes) and cluster XVIII (2 genotypes).

The clusters viz., II, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XII, XIII, XVI and XIX had one genotype each. The cluster XVII exhibited the maximum intra cluster distance. The maximum inter cluster distance was recorded between cluster XIX and IV. The maximum genetic divergence per cent was contributed by the trait number of clusters per plant. The cluster II and VI had the lowest mean value for days to 50% flowering and the cluster VII had the highest mean value for the trait and number of pods per plant.

Science and Indian Literature
The scarcity of science fiction in Indian literature and Indian Cinema raises many questions related to our mind sets and ideologies. Since the time of the printing machine, millions of the books got published in India in English, Hindi and more than twenty five regional languages. But when we count the number of science fictions, it is horribly meager. These books found neither readers nor acclamation.
