September 10, 2021 0
Spatial Analysis of Cropping Pattern in Malwa Region of the Indian Punjab
The present paper spatially analysis the cropping pattern in Malwa region of the India Punjab by using secondary sources of data i.e. from 2000 2001 to 2010 2011. Districts has been selected as a spatial unit of the present study. The study yields some interesting findings is that the cropping pattern of the study area had drastically changed. It has been observed that the traditional crops of the region have shifted to modern paddy crops specially to rice and wheat during the one decade. Choropleth maps clearly depicting the shifting nature of these crops i.e. wheat, rice, cotton and oil seeds in this paper. The spatial variability of these crops was affected by many local factors like climatic conditions, relatively high preference to particular crop, irrigation facilities, types of relief, etc. But the emergence of rice in Malwa region during this period was one of the key factors in this regard which will have several socio economic and environment consequences.

Micro Level Analysis of Human Settlements in Uttar Dinajpur District A Quantitative Approach

Settlement plays a crucial role in both directional as well as locational planning. In human geography, any form of habitation from a single house to a mega city is known as settlement. Settlements are the actual expression of human occupation on the earth surface, have always engaged the attention of the geographer. The secondary sources data has been used for the analysis. In the present study an attempt has been made to examine the spatial pattern of settlements in terms of growth, distribution, density, size, in term of area and population , concentration and spacing for understanding the existing position of the settlement system in the study area for the formulation of micro level diagnostic planning to achieved balanced regional development. To analysed the distribution and spatial variation of settlements, the standard statistical technique like Mather’s Model of Mean Spacing, Gini’s technique of Coefficient of Concentration has been used. Besides, Karl Pearson’s coefficient of correlation and regression method has been used, and for the hypothesis testing student’s ” ˜t’ test has been used.

Health Status of Rural Women in Odisha

In demographic point of view, women constitute little less than half of the world’s total population. However, they do not enjoy socioeconomic and health status as par with the men meaning that women are adversely placed as compared to the men. Among states of India, Odisha is a major state in Eastern India with poor socioeconomic development. Health status is also found to be poor. In all the situations, women suffer more than the men. The disease burden is high among women and Pregnancy and child birth related diseases account for about 65 of the disease. Hence, the study of health condition of rural women in Odisha is most important. In this paper, an attempt has been made to study the levels of health status of women in rural Odisha based on select indicators of health such as acute illness, chronic illness, abortions between 15 to 49 age group , mortality, disability, BMI, anemia.

Regional Disparities in the Level of Socio Economic Development in Murshidabad District of West Bengal

The term regional disparity is very common in developing and less developed countries. It opposed the development in any region. The development indicates the advancement of overall phenomena in any region. Regional disparities have occurred in the macro level region, while development is highly seen in the micro level region. The present study assesses the regional disparities in the level of socio economic development at the block level in Murshidabad district, were applying Kendall’s Ranking Coefficient Index method to analyze the secondary data. A total of 26 blocks of the study area has been included in the study. To show the picture of regional disparities of socio economic development 26 indicators are identified which are divided into three major groups such as social related indicators, economic related indicators, and demographic related indicators. For taking about equal regional development and improving all essential quality, potential targets for various social and economic amenities have been estimated. The present work suggests that the low developed blocks require improvement of overall socio economic development in the study area.

Examining the Demographic and Socio Economic Differentials in Commuting A Review of Literature

October 20, 2020 0
Examining the Demographic and Socio Economic Differentials in Commuting A Review of Literature

The phenomenon of commuting is largely selective in nature and there is more or less paucity of commuting by a certain segment of population with particular demographic, economic or social traits i.e. age, sex, education, marriage, occupation, income, caste race and religion, etc. . As a general assumption, the males, adults, and the married people are likely more to commute and those with low level of education, medium level of income and with skilled professions, though, the demographic and socio economic differentials in commuting may vary in developed and developing societies depending on their distinct socio economic structure. Commuting selectivity process poses the impacts on both sending and receiving areas. The commuting of workforce with particular qualifications to a region increases the number of that trait in particular area and decreases the number of that segments in dispatching area. Likewise, commuters with high skill of technology and education also diffuse them in their place of work, which later become the base for the development of that particular region.

Radiometric Data Analysis in Parts of Kurnool District, Andhra Pradesh, India

The study area Panyam mandal located in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, India. In this study area Radiometric measurements were carried out to identify the radiometric anomalies according to near surface geological formations. In the present study it is explained about the three profiles P1, P2 and P3 which are passess through Nandyal Shale formations in which the radiometric anomalies are different at place to place. Profile P1 exhibit high values 6 µR hr throughout the profile. The profile P2 shows high anomaly like P1 throughout the area but a low 3 µR hr is noticed in the middle of the profile and maybe it is due to highly weathered shales. The profile P3 show very low 2 µR hr at two places due to soil cover and the remaining area show high anomalies as in the profiles P1 and P2. In all the profiles the anomalies with alternate low and high is observed due to result of moderate to slightly weathered shales

Growth of Pineapple Cultivation A Spatio Temporal Analysis in India

Pineapple Ananas Comosus is one of the most important tropical and sub tropical fruit of Bromeliaceae family, cultivated almost one third part of the world. July to September is the main growing season in India and it takes almost 18 24 months to mature for harvesting. The main objective of this paper is to analyse the temporal growth in area, production and productivity or yield of pineapple in India. The data series of spati temporal growth of pineapple is incorporated from 1995 96 to 2015 16. The finding of this paper revealed that the area increased from 71.3 to 109.83 000 hectare , production 1071.32 to 1924.22 000 MT and productivity 15 to 17.52 MT hectare in the last two decades. Over the last twenty years the percentage of growth in area, production and productivity of pineapple are 54.04, 79.36 and 16.8 respectively. The study also revealed that Assam has the largest area under pineapple cultivation, West Bengal is the leading producer and Karnataka is the largest in productivity. The huge variation in productivity of pineapple among different states are mainly because inadequate farm management techniques i.e. less use of chemical fertilizer, pesticides, improper suckers, inadequate knowledge and insufficient use of other input, which are the result of less production and productivity.

Agricultural Geography is mainly concerned with the spatio temporal analysis of agricultural activities. The most striking characteristic feature of the present day agriculture is its great diversity of practice, products and organisation Grigg, D. 1969 . The bewildering diversity of agricultural practices and pattern of crop farming is due to diversity in topographical, agro climatic, cultural, socio economic and technological conditions Ramanaiah, Y.V., 1984 . A systematic study of crop land relationship not only helps agricultural regionalisation but also provides a scientific basis for land resource allocation to various agricultural crops and planning for maximum productivity Singh and Singh, 1970 . The spatial patterns and dynamics of cropland utilisation in agriculture have received due importance in the field of agricultural geography. The study of cropping pattern or crop land relationship helps to develop typology and taxonomy of agriculture. Hence in the present study an endeavour is made to study the changing spatial patterns of general crops in Nellore District, Andhra Pradesh for two trienniums i.e., 1987 90 and 2012 15 taking Mandal as unit.

A Study on Rock units for Landslide Hazard between Yinmabin and Kalaw areas, Mandalay Region and Shan State South

The research area is situated along the Thazi Taunggyi road section and Thazi Shwenyaung railway section in western part of the Shan Plateau. It is one of the most socio economically important transportation routes in Myanmar. Most of the land slide hazards occur annually along the pathways for transportation because of the mountainous terrain area with high steep cutting slopes. The study area involves a sequence of Yinmabin metamorphic complex Early Paleozoic , Lebyin Group Early Carboniferous , Plateau Limestone Group Middle Permian Middle Triassic , Loi an Group late Middle Jurassic early Late Jurassic , Pyinnyaung Formation Late Jurassic  Early Cretaceous , Kalaw Red Bed Cretaceous and Alluvium Holocene .The various types of rock units are igneous and meta igneous rock units, metamorphic rock units , sedimentary and meta sedimentary rock units. The igneous rock units are also comprised the granitic rocks, dioritic rocks, rhyolite and biotite microgranite. Metamorphic Rock units of Yinmabin Metamorphic Complex are low to medium grade metamorphosed pelitic rocks, medium to high grade metamorphosed quartzo feldspatic rocks and medium grade metamorphosed calcareous rocks. The Lebyin Group consists of greywackes, pebbly mudstone, quartzite and shales. The Plateau Limestone Group is composed of medium to thick bedded, light gray to bluish gray calcitic limestone, dolomic limestones, brecciated limestone and argillaceous calcitic limestone. The two Jurassic units consists of interbedded sequences of sandstone, siltstone, shale. Generally the rocks of the Loi an Group are turbiditic nature of siliciclastic sedimentary rock units. Kalaw Red Beds are totally of continental origin of fluvialtile fanglomeratic deposits containing comglomerate, thin to medium bedded sandstone, siltstone and shale. Moreover, the study area is structurally unstable because it lies in the Shan Scarp Fault Zone. So, most of the landslide types occur in this area. Wedge Failure and plane failure are the common type of landslides and other types occur as minor.
