A Review on Herbs with Esterogenic Activity

September 13, 2018 0
A Review on Herbs with Esterogenic Activity

60 million women in India all above the age of 55 years, with women living longer than before, a majority would spend 1 3 of their life in the post-menopausal stages. The health problems cropping up during this period and related to estrogen deficiency of menopause are several decades to identify effective and safe substances for estrogen regulation.

This approach proved to be a good alternative to synthetic drugs as the chemicals of plant origin have limited side effects. Various medicinal plants extracts were investigated for their estrogenic activity in animal models. This review presents update information gathered on scientifically screened medicinal plants used for estrogenic activity in females.

This review provides the information on botanical name along with their family, parts used, chemical constituents and their estrogenic activity on target organ.

Awareness on Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) Among College Going Girls

Awareness on Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) Among College Going Girls
The Poly Cystic Ovaries Syndrome is considered to be most prevalent of all endocrine disorders which women face. The purpose of our study was to collect data on how many women had awareness of this syndrome. Furthermore what was the ratio of women who were aware of these disorder symptoms was evaluated. Data was collected from three hundred women who were seeking education in ST.Ann's Degree College. Subjects were inquired through survey forms about the symptoms. The collected data was then interpreted to find the awareness of about PCOS as 63% out of 300 subjects. Regarding menstruation 21.1% had some sort of irregularity.14.4% women had oligomenorrhoea. To conclude this study does not have sufficient evidence to establish the prevalence of PCOs through ultrasonography; thus only awareness on PCODS and prevalence of oligomenorrhoea and hirsutism has been stated which can serve as a guideline towards finding the true prevalence PCOS in our society.

Diabetic Foot Ulcer and Treatment: A Review of Progress and Future Prospects

December 02, 2017 0
Diabetic Foot Ulcer and Treatment: A Review of Progress and Future Prospects
Chronic non-healing ulcers are a significant medical problem and the incidence of these wounds is expected to increase as the United States population ages. It was projected that approximately 1,400,000 diabetics in this country alone would suffer from Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) in 2015. The three major challenges in the medical management of DFU are 1) reduction of microbial infection both directly and through enhancement of a productive immune response, 2) restoration of a constructive wound healing microenvironment, and 3) induction of sufficient revascularization. A recent European study showed that approximately 28% of patients with infected DFU required amputations.

Although the data are challenging to interpret due to the wide range of disease severities included in the analyses, standard therapies only cure approximately 30% of DFU after 20 weeks and at best advanced modality therapies achieve ~56% healing at 12 weeks. The increasing prevalence of chronic non-healing ulcers poses significant clinical challenges to wound care, often requiring the use of potent antibiotics with undesirable side effects on wound healing. However, no current product addresses both infection and closure of chronic non-healing ulcers.

There is an unmet medical need for alternative products assessed by randomized, controlled trials with well-defined and controlled manufacturing processes for the treatment of chronic cutaneous ulcers. The present review emphasizes on development of the next generation of therapeutic skin substitutes which promote wound closure.
