The Impact of GST on the Indian Economy and its Effect on the Banking Sector

June 18, 2021 0
The Impact of GST on the Indian Economy and its Effect on the Banking Sector

Traditionally Indias tax regime relied heavily on indirect taxes. Revenue from indirect taxes was the major source of tax revenue till tax reforms were undertaken during the nineties. The major argument put forth for heavy reliance on indirect taxes was t hat Indias majority of the population was poor and thus widening base of direct taxes had inherent limitations. The biggest tax reform in India was the implementation of the Goods and Service Tax GST which was founded under the notion of “one nation, one market, on e tax”. The single biggest indirect tax regime was kicked into force from 1st July, 2017, dismantling all the inter state barriers with respect to trade. The GST rollout, with a single stroke, converted India into a unified market of 1.3 billion citizens. The banking sector is one of the most important sectors in India. It contributes nearly 7.7 towards GDP. It is one of the largest service sectors in India. The implementation of GST caused a major impact on t he banking sector resulting in shifting from the way they had been operating earlier. This paper would be about the Indian tax structure and the impact of GST on the Indian Economy and the banking sector.

The Impact of Students Inclinations on the Choice of Study Specialization using Bayesian Networks

December 15, 2020 0
The Impact of Students Inclinations on the Choice of Study Specialization using Bayesian Networks

In recent years, Universities had witnessed multiplicity and diversity in the fields of study specialization, through increasing the number of Specializations’ years on one hand and creating faculties of new Specializations on the other hand. Our purpose is to investigate the students behavior in terms of the choice of their specialization major during their Bachelor studies. Through this research, we are trying to study the relationship between Students Inclinations and academic achievements in the chosen department in the school of Economics at Aleppo University using Bayesian Networks. Our findings show that there is no robust relationship between the students Inclinations and their educational achievements, which concluded that students are not choosing the major based on their knowledge skills. However, the students scores in accounting subjects, before specialization, played the main role in their decision.

Gender Imbalance in India Causes and Emerging Issues

October 25, 2020 0
Gender Imbalance in India Causes and Emerging Issues

The provisional data of 2011 Census has once again highlighted the problem of severe sex imbalance in the country, especially in 0 6 age group. According to Census of 2011, the sex ratio in 0 6 year’s age group has declined to 914 females per 1000 males as compared to 927 in 2001. It shows an increasing trend of male preference as compared to female in the last decade. The phenomenon of son preference is coupled with death of young females due to lack of medical care, under nutrition, female infanticide, and sex selective abortions. Sen 1992, 2003 first addressed the disturbing trend by highlighting that millions of females in India are missing because of widespread neglect in health care, nutrition and prenatal care. The steep decline in sex ratio in northern and western states is a cause of worry. Technological developments permitting sex selective abortions have seriously aggravated sex imbalance in these states. The trend of rapid decline in sex ratio has given rise to serious social, demographic and cultural problems. This present paper attempts to explain the causes for gender imbalance and its implications on the society as a whole.

Disinvestment and its Impact on the Performance of CPSEs

Government of India had adopted the policy of disinvestment back in 1991 after the enactment of New Industrial Policy mainly due to poor performance of public sector enterprises for several past years. India had experienced huge losses in public enterprises, heavy foreign assistance, adverse foreign trade, high budget deficit etc., all of these unfavorable conditions forced the government to take some serious economic decision to address the various interlinked issues. The policy of disinvestment of public enterprises is one of them. The decision of disinvestment is also influenced by the experience of other countries with disinvestment. From the above analysis and observations of various literatures, research papers, reports and data it can be concluded that the overall performance of CPSEs shown an improvement in the post disinvestment era.

Econometric Analysis of Small Business Lending

Uzbekistan set an ambitious goal to achieve the status of an upper middle income country by 2030, with the focus on growing a large and solid middle class social stratum. The current reforms in Uzbekistan largely target the development of small businesses and private entrepreneurship SME as SMEs have the greatest potential for becoming a real basis for forming a middle class. Therefore, business policymaking is getting more focused on supporting SMEs in tackling their key issues, especially access to funding. This paper studies the existing problems in ensuring lending instruments for SMEs and examines the effect of bank lending in SME sector growth in Uzbekistan. The OLS analysis showed that bank lending to SMEs stimulates the growth of SMEs’ share in economy to significant extent.

A Study of Derivative Market in India

A Study of Derivative Market in India

The Indian derivative market has become multi trillion dollar markets over the years. Financial markets are very inventive in augmenting the popularity of derivatives instruments which exemplifies how resourcefully markets are capable to package and manage risk. To manage the increased financial risk to the corporate world, it is necessary to develop a set of new financial instruments known as derivatives in the Indian financial markets. The emergence of derivatives market is an ingenious feat of financial engineering that provides an effective and less costly solution to the problem of risk that is embedded in the price unpredictability of the underlying assets. Derivative market has an important role to play in economic development of a country. In India, the emergence and growth of derivatives market is relatively a recent phenomenon. The present paper is an attempt to study the evolution of Indian derivative market and its role in the Indian Economy.

Foreign Investment and its Coherent Relationship with Stock Market Returns A Cross Country Study

January 16, 2020 0
Foreign Investment and its Coherent Relationship with Stock Market Returns A Cross Country Study

The research is aimed at finding relationship between two key indicators of identifying the health of any economy namely status of foreign investment and stock market returns. The stock exchange return may be indicated by both benchmark index and market cap. It has been observed that these two go hand in hand with almost perfectly positive correlation. Subsequently the relationship between FDI investment and benchmark stock exchange has been tested in the context of two economies India and Brazil, which are predominantly having strong potential to attract considerable amount of foreign investment. Vector autoregression model VAR has been used to identify the relationship followed by lag order selection and identification of lag length. The bidirectional causality has been tested followed by identifying the variables as block exogenous. Impulse and variance decomposition tests have proved the importance of shock of exogenous factors onto the variables. A detailed case study has been performed for India, where Cointegration test significantly concluded strong interdependence between FDI equity investment , ECB debt investment and benchmark stock index NIFTY 500 . The research has been concluded by developing a forecasting model for the benchmark index based on the values of FDI and its own values with first and second lag orders.
