Review of the Segregated Cycle Tracks in Bhopal

December 16, 2020 0
Review of the Segregated Cycle Tracks in Bhopal

The cities today witness an unprecedented immigration influx, majorly in all developing countries, as is the case of India. This means more vehicles on city roads. With the unavailability of walking and cycling infrastructure, people are forced to use vehicles majorly powered by petrol and diesel engines, ultimately increasing the carbon emissions. With smart, sustainable and segregated cycling and walking paths, the use of cycles will be encouraged and will contribute immensely in combating climate change. The study involves a case study of Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, India. The importance of cycle lanes and its need is discussed through survey of pedestrians and cyclists.

A Literature Review on the Role of Zycotherm as an Additive used in Bitumen

October 19, 2020 0
A Literature Review on the Role of Zycotherm as an Additive used in Bitumen

Water is one of the prominent damaging elements in asphalt pavement due to its enormous detrimental effects on pavement performance. Moisture damage induced by the actions of water reduces the strength as well as durability of asphalt mixtures, tends to cause various types of distress such as potholes, stripping, and others to the pavement, formed by lack of cohesion and adhesion. To sort out this problem, the modification of bitumen is needed to enhance its properties for pavement surface. Ergo, the current paper introduces the findings of prior research studies on Zycotherms effect as an anti stripping agent, recently developed, chemically reactive nanomaterial that imparts strength to the surface of the pavement. In this study, optimum bitumen content by Marshal Mix Design, without and with necessary dosages of Zycotherm upgraded from Zycosoil and alterations in properties are reported through various tests.

Expermential Investagation and Analysis of Bitumen Modifaction Using Fly Ash

August 14, 2020 0
Expermential Investagation and Analysis of Bitumen Modifaction Using Fly Ash

The increase of crude oil prices in recent years resulted in an increase in bitumen prices as crude oil is origin for bitumen, asphalt and in other hand the fly ash from the power generating plants causes severe disposal problems. The main purpose of this project is to study the possibility of using fly ash as mineral filler in Bituminous paving mixes. Fly ash, a coal combustion product once treated as waste and disposed in landfills, is used today in substructure and road works. The research of fly ash properties may solve the problems of treatment and intelligent use of this residual material. This Marshall stability test is employed to determine the properties like stability, flow value, air voids, voids in mineral aggregate VMA , voids filled with bitumen VFB for a Dense Bituminous Macadam DBM mix. The experimental work is carried out by using specifications from MORTH Ministry of road transports and highways, specifications for road and bridge works,5th revision .By replacing the stone dust with fly ash at the levels 4 , 6 and 18 the results are compared. The variation of properties, optimum bitumen and fly ash contents are evaluated. It is observed that the mixes with fly ash as filler not differ much in properties when compared with control mix and satisfy desired criteria specified by a much higher margin. Hence, it has been recommended to utilize fly ash wherever available, not only reducing the cost of execution, but also partly solve the fly ash utilization and disposal problems.

An Experimental Paper on Compressive Strength of Pervious Concrete
Perv

ious concrete has been in use in many countries over more than a century. Its higher porosity helps in percolating rain water directly to ground and thereby helps in recharging groundwater aquifer. In this study, pervious concrete of sizes of 6.3mm size aggregate were prepared with different water cement ratios to find the compressive strength. The purpose of this project is to analyze the feasibility of producing highly sustainable no fine concrete mixtures and evaluating the effect of W c ratio on the properties of pervious concrete. Porous concrete is produced by using ordinary Portland cement, coarse aggregates, and water. This concrete is tested for its property compressive strength. The results showed that the water cement ratio showed significant effect on compressive strength of Pervious concrete.

A Review on Performance of Toll Plaza by using Queuing Theory

October 16, 2019 0
A Review on Performance of Toll Plaza by using Queuing Theory
One of the key problems in the study of any stream of traffic system is the analysis of delay. Delay is a more delicate concept. It may be well defined as the difference between the actual travel time on a given section and some ideal travel time of that section. This raises the question as what is the ideal travel time. In practice, the ideal travel time chosen will depend on the situation. There are two particular travel times that seem best suited as benchmarks for assessment with the actual performance of the system. These are the travel times under free flow conditions and travel time at capacity. Most recent research has found that for highway systems, there is reasonably little difference between these two spe
eds. The analysis of delay normally focuses on the delay when demand exceeds its capacity. Such delay is known as queuing delay, and may be studied by means of queuing theory. This theory involves the analysis which is known as a queuing system, which is composed of a server, a stream of customers who demand service, and a queue or line of customers waiting to be served.

A Review Paper on Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete

October 05, 2019 1
A Review Paper on Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete
Generally, adding of steel fibres in concrete improves the significance of the concrete mix and it also reduces the workability of the concrete. Steel fibre reinforced concrete SFRC is a Composite material which is made up of hydraulic cements. It contains coarse and fine aggregate. Since, cement having well compressive and steel having tensile strength it is capable of resisting wind and earthquake forces. Although reinforcing brittle materials with fibres is not a new concept, it was started in the early 1960s. Steel fibres added to concrete, steel fibre reinforced concrete SFRC is formed which enhances flexural strength, tensile strength and impact resistance. As it also improves structural integrity and protects from crack deformation which impacts to extent life of the Structures. The use of Steel fibre reinforced concrete SFRC requires accurate configuration differ from normal concrete and workability of the concrete would be affected as the quantity of fibres increasing. Still SFRC Structures are limited and a steel fibre is not considered to be economical and less stable as they often used in tunnel and underground structural Steel fibres mostly developed to many micro cracks to few macro cracks.

A Review Paper on Strength Development of SCMS Based Geopolymer Cement

Ten to 50 of the world's total carbon dioxide emissions come from producing cement. The global warming gas is discharged once stone and clays are crushed and heated to high temperatures. New age concrete is outlined as a concrete that uses the waste product as a minimum of one among its parts, or its production method doesnt cause environmental destruction, or its high performance and life cycle property. Varied efforts are conducted by researchers to make some alternatives that can considerably cut back high energy consumed and environmental impacts throughout the fabrication method of cement, together with implementing the idea of commercial ecology. The cleaner technologies in concrete production, like work comparatively high proportion of cement by fly ash up to 100 , the utilization of different natural pozzolans, development of concrete with usage or waste materials, and developing of new age concrete by using polymerization of concrete the present reviews about performance of geopolymer concrete with the SCM materials Fly ash and GGBS M.

Analysis of Energy Generation from Exhaust of Automobile using Peltier Thermoelectric Generator

In recent past days, big deal of the automobile industrys RESEARCH and DEVELOPMENT Practicing on improving overall efficiency of vehicle. It has brought a major interest in the field of making internal combustion engines highly efficient 1 . In past days, only 25 30 energy is used in the vehicle and rest is exposed to surroundings. The useful energy is used to run the engine as well as generator. So the efficiency of those engine were very less. But the efficiency can be improved by utilizing waste heat that is exhaust of vehicle. One of the best technology that was found to be useful for this purpose were thermoelectric generator. In this, we study and investigated the use of thermoelectric generator for power production 2 . Thermoelectric generator works by imparting exhausts gas stream on its surface and small D.C. electric current developed due to difference in temperature across heat exchanger that is put in the pathway of exhaust gas i.e. working on seebeck effect principle. An output Voltage of 200mV was generated using a single Bi2Te3 thermoelectric module for a temperature difference of about 40o C which can be used in charging battery, headlight, G.P.S. systems, etc. Such that it can reduce the level of alternators frictional power that is used to save fuel and also in automotive industry to increase the efficiency of engine 1 .

Effects of Sub-Grade and Sub-Base Materials Quality on Flexible Pavement A Case Study

September 26, 2018 0
Effects of Sub-Grade and Sub-Base Materials Quality on Flexible Pavement A Case Study
Flexible pavements are composed of asphaltic layer, base course sub base materials which laid over a well compacted and strong sub grade foundation soil. Basic engineering properties of Sub grade materials are required for design and Coarse grained soils serves as good for supporting pavements whereas fine grained soils, particularly clayey soils pose problem to pavement. Jimma town is a big trade center and coffee production areas of in Ethiopia but, the current existing condition most parts of the road are deteriorated. The objective of this research was to investigate effects of subgrade and sub-base materials quality on flexible pavement.

The distress is categorized by level of severity according to Ethiopian Roads Authority ERA standard specification to get 4-stations high deterioration of block crack, 6-stations medium deterioration of Alligator crack and 5-stations low deterioration of edge crack of the studied stretch along Ajip to Gebrel church of 10 km in Jimma town. The samples taken randomly from the deteriorated area of the subgrade and sub-base materials of 15 stations and laboratory tests conducted and also the results were discussed, compared with the ERA, AASHTO and ASTM.

The tests result NMC OMC indicated that excess water in the subgrade and sub-base materials according to AASHTO D-180 specification, compaction of subgrade and sub-base layers are below the minimum requirement MDD 97 laboratory density of AASHTO, poor strength CBR 1.76gm cc of AASHTO T-193 and ERA specification, sieve analysis for gradation out of the upper and lower limit of AASHTO T-27 for the subgrade and sub-base materials. These can be causes of pavement deterioration on flexible pavement.

But, the Atterberg's limit test results satisfy the standard specification of ASTM D-4318. From this research recommended that the designer and contractor should be follow the minimum requirement set by standard specification regarding the engineering properties of materials, the side ditch must be constructed so as to prevent infiltration of water to the under lining strata, seal coats shall be applied to prevent infiltration of water through cracked surfaces to subgrade layer of the pavement.

An Experimental Study on Modification of Dense Graded Bituminous Mix Design

January 26, 2016 0
An Experimental Study on Modification of Dense Graded Bituminous Mix Design
Various problems on the roads have been frequently observed on flexible pavements like: potholes, rutting, shoving etc. In hot and developing countries like India, roads are affected by severed problems mentioned above, due to the water presence in the pavement, heavy traffic load, excessive no. of vehicles. Literature review lightens up on solution of these problems by modification of bitumen. To lighten this process, several measures may be effective, such as, use of better quality materials like waste plastic, motor oil, crumb rubber.

This study proposes the utilization of waste materials i.e. waste plastic, crumb rubber and motor oil and check their suitability to mitigate theses defects of cracking, rutting, pothole etc. Marshal stability method is chosen to determine the stability and flow value for bitumen mix design. Individual effects of polythene, crumb rubber and motor oil is analysed first by varying the percentage of same with optimum bitumen content. And comprehensive effect of these three material has been also observed and discussed by plotting the graphs and it is found that Bitumen (5.5 %), Crumb Rubber (8%), Waste Plastic (6%) and Motor Oil (2%) gives highest stability and other properties values within the range given in MORTH. It is expected that this study would be useful to researchers and consultancies to construct the roads economically and long lasting servicing.
