Changes in cardiac structure and function detected by echo cardio graphy are common in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemo dialysis, and have been recognized as key outcome predictors. This review attempts to summarize recent evidence pointing to the usefulness of the method in the detection of clinical and sub clinical cardiac dysfunction, stratification of cardiovascular risk and assessment of intervention strategies.
